“Regarde”

At the beginning of this year, I had the special opportunity to spend 5 weeks in Toulouse, France. Walking the city streets everyday, I became acquainted with different neighborhoods, absorbing the unique architecture around every corner. Toulouse is know as “la ville rose” or "the pink city" due to the clay brick found in many of its buildings that changes in hue throughout the day. I fell in love with the warm tones, coarse texture and geometric patterning found anywhere you go.

Upon returning to my studio, I began exploring with a fresh perspective invigorated by travel. Painting on fabrics and mixing found fiber, I worked to balance geometric form with organic mark-making. I collaged these materials while the sense of turning corners, looking up and taking pauses remained steady in my mind. “Regarde”, the French term ‘to look and savour’ is a collection reflecting on the experience of discovering a new place, learning its visual language, and speaking to the poetic nature of time.
